Autism and Me – Thoughts of an autistic 12 year old girl

I don’t feel autistic. But then I realise that I am awkward at times, and I can be too influenced, and I can act strange. That makes me think, “Do try and fight away the autism.”

And then I realise, “That’s a part of you. You don’t want to lose your autism.  That’s how you lose some good qualities too.”

Those words may not comfort you, but they do me. Often, what bothers me the most is how different the other people at school and things treat me. Stop coddling me like a baby, I’m just like you in terms of maturity.

But quickly we are dispelling myths about autism. Soon I will be a normal person in the eyes of society, I hope.
